Following the surprise announcement of the Atari 2600+, one gamer shows off their own collection of Atari games and accessories on social media.

Inspired by the announcement of the Atari 2600+ console coming this fall, one gamer decided to dig up their own retro collection out of storage and posted a screenshot on social media of what they had. The screenshot earned compliments from other retro gamers on social media, with some remarking at how much money the OP could fetch were they to ever part with their Atari 2600 collection.

Originally released in 1977, the Atari 2600 was part of the second generation of video game consoles. Originally launching at $189, the Atari 2600 was home to ports of arcade games such as Space Invaders and Pac-Man, but also was the platform on which the ill-fated E.T. was released. Between E.T. and an oversaturated market of poor-quality games, 1983's video game crash led to Atari's decline. Since then, the company has reformed and returned to the console market with the Atari VCS console. However, the Atari VCS stopped production in late 2022, and Atari has since shifted its focus to more complimentary hardware such as the incoming Atari 2600+ this fall.

Inspired by the imminent launch of the Atari 2600+, a Reddit user named okram2k showed off a screenshot of their incredible collection of Atari 2600 games, controllers, and consoles on the Gaming subreddit. The OP's screenshot showed over 100 Atari 2600 game cartridges, with titles such as Pitfall, Sky Diver, and Defender shown front and center. This included multiple copies of some games such as Space Invaders and Asteroids. On the right side, some old game manuals were sorted into a pile, and an assorted collection of Atari 2600 controllers and power adapters flanked the games that the OP had. Among the various joystick and paddle controllers was a rare Video Touch Pad controller that was used to play Star Raiders.

Two Atari 2600 units were also on display next to some game boxes, with one of the consoles being the six-switch model. Unlike another user's Atari 2600 collection that was infested by insects, the collection posted by okram2k appeared to be in fine condition despite some obvious aging on the cartridges. The post from okram2k received over 400 upvotes on the Gaming subreddit within two days. In the comments, some users stated their nostalgia for the Atari 2600 and 7800 consoles and expressed their curiosity about the upcoming Atari 2600+.

With plenty of rare and valuable Atari games in today's market, the legacy of the Atari 2600 endures. It remains to be seen how many retro game enthusiasts will pick up the Atari 2600+ once it is released.

The Atari 2600+ launches on November 17.
